Supergirl's official trailer is set to be released imminently

This comes after new cast and story details emerged

The comic-book film will fly into theaters on June 26

DC Studios has revealed that a new trailer for Supergirl will be released today (March 31).

Announcing as much with a 30-second teaser on social media yesterday (March 30), the comic-book titan confirmed that another look at the highly-anticipated Milly Alcock-fronted film would be unveiled before April arrives.

This isn't the first time we've received more than a sneak peek at the DC Universe (DCU) movie, which will take flight in theaters on June 26. Supergirl's first trailer was unveiled last December, but the forthcoming film's next round of footage should give general audiences a clearer idea of what its plot entails.

7 big questions I have after the release of Lanterns' first trailer

DC diehards won't need another trailer to give them a flavor for its story, mind you, because the second DCU Chapter One movie looks like it'll be a near-perfect adaptation of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, aka the graphic novel from Tom King and Bilquis Eveley.

And when I say "near-perfect", I mean it. That's because some new information on Supergirl's cast and plot recently came to light that, if you're anything like me, will excite and confuse you in equal measure.

What have we recently learned about Supergirl's story and cast?

Major spoilers follow for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. You have been warned.

For one, David Corenswet's Superman will appear in Supergirl. In the above teaser, Clark Kent/Kal-El can be seen trying to contact his Kryptonian cousin via a videocall. Clearly, though, Supergirl — real name Kara Zor-El — doesn't want to be disturbed.

There had been rumors that Corenswet would reprise his role as the Man of Steel in one of 2026's most exciting new movies, but this is the first official confirmation we've received that he will. Given that Alcock's tormented metahuman made a crowd-pleasing cameo in last year's Superman movie, it's fun to see Corenswet return the favor.

That said, while Supes' appearance in Supergirl will help to build the connective tissue between the DCU's various projects, it's a surprise to see him involved. Superman doesn't appear in Woman of Tomorrow, so his presence, while welcome, may perplex anyone who's read Woman of Tomorrow.

New movies: the most exciting films coming to theaters in March 2026

In an Entertainment Weekly (EW) preview piece, director Craig Gillespie reconfirmed that flashbacks — ones teased in the film's first trailer — will cover Kara's time on Krypton and in her home city of Argo. Some of her backstory formed part of Woman of Tomorrow's plot, but it seems that it'll be fleshed out in more detail in Supergirl.

Indeed, TV spots have already highlighted that we'll see how Kara and her boisterous pet dog Krypto met. Add in a potential Krypton-based appearance from Supes, further examination of her parental relationships — EW confirms that David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham will play her dad and mom — and Krypton's destruction, and these flashbacks will take up a fair amount of screentime. I'm not against these inclusions, either, especially if they service the plot and offer general audiences a better insight into why Kara is the way that she is.

Given that Krem looks nothing like his comic-book counterpart, some fans have already expressed their displeasure over what they deem to be unnecessary changes to his physical appearance. Unless there's a narrative reason for his changed appearance, and in particular his bead-studded face, it's a transformation that's baffled me, too. If DC Studios had given us a comic-accurate Krem, we'd all be far happier.

There'll be other aspects of Supergirl that'll be faithful to Woman of Tomorrow. Subsequent posts on the film's X/Twitter account indicate that we'll visit well-known locations in the graphic novel, such as Coronn and Barenton. Meanwhile, further additions include Jason Momoa's Lobo, the interstellar mercenary who was originally due to appear in Woman of Tomorrow before his cameo was cut from its final edit.

Hopefully, Supergirl will be as authentic to its source material as possible, with those creative deviations supplementing the character study-led tale we all expect it to tell. I guess we'll know one way or another when it lands in theaters later this year.
