Amazon has confirmed when Crime 101 will come out on Prime Video

The crime thriller movie will be released as soon as April arrives

The Chris Hemsworth-led flick only landed in theaters in mid-February

Amazon has announced the official streaming release date for Crime 101 — and you'll be able to watch it sooner than you think, because it's set to arrive on Wednesday, April 1.

The crime thriller, which features Marvel actors Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo among its star-studded cast, only made its theatrical debut on February 13. However, Amazon has now confirmed that the movie will come to Prime Video in the very near future.

For those who might have missed it: Crime 101 is a largely faithful adaptation of Don Winslow's acclaimed novella namesake. In it, Hemsworth plays Mike Davis, an elusive thief who's committed a number of armed robberies on Route 101 in Los Angeles.

Crime 101 review: Marvel star Chris Hemsworth's new action heist movie is a seat-gripping thrill ride — until it's not

Crime 101 star Chris Hemsworth really did his own stunts in new movie, director says

Crime 101 ending explained: what happens to Mike Davis, Lou Lubesnick, and Sharon Colvin?

However, when a diamond heist nearly costs him his life, Davis draws up plans to carry out one last big score — one he enlists the help of high society insurance broker Sharon (Halle Berry) for — so he can exit the game for good. Well, as long as he can evade dogged detective Lou Lubesnick (Ruffalo), who's been on his tail for years. Oh, and as long as the young, violent criminal known as Ormon (Barry Keoghan) doesn't thwart Davis' plans.

Is Crime 101 going to be available on Prime Video worldwide?

It'll be a ahem crime if Chris Hemsworth's latest film isn't available on Prime Video around the world (Image credit: Amazon MGM Studios/Sony Pictures)

On the surface, you would think so. Crime 101 is an Amazon MGM Studios production, so it should be a safe bet that it'll drop on Prime Video, aka one of the world's best streaming services in every nation, right?

Not exactly. Amazon led production on the movie, but it was only distributed by the e-commerce giant's entertainment division in North America. Sony Pictures handled that side of things internationally — and, with Sony films debuting on streaming platforms like Netflix in countries such as the UK, there's no guarantee that Crime 101 will premiere on Prime Video across the globe.

It would be odd if an Amazon Original Movie launched on Netflix, which is one of Prime Video's biggest rivals. Unless Amazon confirms that Crime 101 will only land on its streaming service in the next couple of days, we'll just have to wait until April 1 to find out for sure.

For what it's worth, I've reached out to my contacts at Amazon and Sony to find out more. If I receive a response, I'll update this section.
