HBO Max has landed in the UK, and it's brought some of the best horror movies along with it

Right now, we don't have quite as big a selection as the US, but there's still some great titles to dive into. If we're lucky, we'll start to see even more filter in throughout the coming months. We've still got Oscar-winners and new movies to enjoy right now, so it's well worth making the most of the new streaming service.

Here's 5 of my top horror movie picks that you won't want to miss.

7 new horror movies on Netflix, Shudder, HBO Max, and more in February 2026

Age Rating: 15 Length: 138 minutes Director: Ryan Coogler Main cast: Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson

Sinners won big at the Oscars this year, taking home four awards for Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score. It's undeniably the biggest horror movie to stream on HBO Max right now.

The movie stars Michael B. Jordan as the Smokestack Twins, playing both Smoke and Stack in an impressive dual role that won him the Oscar. It's set in the American South in the early 1930s, with the two brothers arrive back in their hometown after years of war, looking to hide from trouble by opening up a 'juke joint', headlined by their younger cousin and gifted musician Sammie. But instead, they find evil waiting for them.

Age Rating: 15 Length: 97 minutes Director: Drew Hancock Main cast: Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, Rupert Friend

Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid lead the cast of this exciting horror movie, which follows a weekend getaway gone horribly wrong, as they often do in this genre.

Quaid plays Josh, a man who has rented a companion robot Iris, played by Thatcher. He can control her via an app on his phone, but Iris rebels and steals it, going haywire in the process. In an era were robots and AI are so prevalent, this is a fun sci-fi horror that's well worth watching.

Age Rating: 12A Length: 104 minutes Director: Tim Burton Main cast: Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe

5 of my favorite horror movies to stream this Friday the 13th

This follow up to the iconic 80s movie has an all-star cast, with plenty of familiar faces reprising their roles as we follow Lydia Deetz decades after the first story.

After a family tragedy occurs, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Despite still being haunted by Beetlejuice after all these years, Lydia is trying hard to move on, but her life ends up being turned upside down once again when her daughter accidentally opens a portal to the Afterlife.

Age Rating: 15 Length: 112 minutes Director: James Wan Main cast: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor

The Conjuring is a beloved horror franchise and you can now watch the original one on HBO Max in the UK. If you liked this, three others are also available, and I'm hoping more Conjuring titles arrive soon.

Based on real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, the first movie follows the couple as they come to the assistance of the Perron family, who experience increasingly disturbing events in their farmhouse in Rhode Island in 1971. With some great scares, this is one of Wan's best.

Age Rating: 15 Length: 135 minutes Director: Andy Muschietti Main cast: Jaeden Lieberher, Bill Skarsgård, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard

IT: Chapter One is Bill Skarsgård's first appearance as Pennywise, and it's absolutely terrifying. Based on the Stephen King novel, it tells the story of The Losers' Club, a group of seven outcast children who are terrorized by this terrifying entity.

Once you've watched both IT movies (the sequel is also on HBO Max), it's well worth checking out the series Welcome to Derry as it expands on the lore and is one of the streamer's best shows, in my opinion.

Lucy is a long-time movie and television lover who is an approved critic on Rotten Tomatoes. She has written several reviews in her time, starting with a small self-ran blog called Lucy Goes to Hollywood before moving onto bigger websites such as What's on TV and What to Watch, with Tech Radar being her most recent venture. Her interests primarily lie within horror and thriller, loving nothing more than a chilling story that keeps her thinking moments after the credits have rolled. Many of these creepy tales can be found on the streaming services she covers regularly.

When she’s not scaring herself half to death with the various shows and movies she watches, she likes to unwind by playing video games on Easy Mode and has no shame in admitting she’s terrible at them. She also quotes The Simpsons religiously and has a Blinky the Fish tattoo, solidifying her position as a complete nerd.
