Jonas Vingegaard will complete the Grand Tour set – before Tadej Pogacar no less – if he's able to win the Giro d’Italia on debut. The 29-year-old Dane took Tour de France glory on his second attempt and triumphed at the Vuelta a Espana at the third time of asking, and despite being a Giro rookie the Visma-Lease a Bike man is the clear favorite for the maglia rosa.
The competition, of course, will be fierce, especially as 22-year-old Giulio Pellizzari has emerged as a force to be reckoned with. A decade has passed since an Italian, Vincenzo Nibali, last won the general classification, and Pellizzari, who finished sixth in both the Giro and Vuelta last year, can count not only on the support of the locals, but his Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe teammate Jai Hindley too.
The Australian won the Giro in 2022, and returned to form with an impressive fourth at the Vuelta last year. Adam Yates, meanwhile, is out to emulate his twin brother Simon Yates, who surged to victory by seizing the lead on the penultimate stage 12 months ago. Adam is yet to win a Grand Tour in 16 attempts, but he's had seven top-10 and two top-five finishes. This will be the UAE Team Emirates XRG man's third crack at the Giro.

Why is a VPN a good option to watch Giro d’Italia 2026?
Taking place across 24 days, Giro d’Italia is almost as gruelling for viewers as it is for the riders themselves. If you have a vacation or work trip planned in May, be warned that your usual streaming options will be geoblocked while you’re away.
That’s where a VPN comes in handy – not only does it let you access your home streaming services from anywhere, but it also protects you from potential online threats. We recommend Nord VPN – it does everything and comes with up to 75% off.
Not having a VPN is like leaving your front door wide open in a busy city – anyone can walk right in and take a peek.
Tech Radar regularly reviews all the biggest and best VPN providers and Nord VPN is our #1 choice.
