Despite Sony's announcement that it would be raising the prices of PS5 consoles and the Play Station portal as of April 2, major retailers in both the US and UK are still offering the hardware at the "old" prices.

With prices still almost certain to rise in line with Sony's announcement, that means better value money right now. It's perfect for anyone looking to pick up a PS5 for a lower price to jump in for the first time, or who is interested in avoiding a costly upgrade to the Pro in anticipation of games like Grand Theft Auto 6, 007 First Light, or Marvel's Wolverine, and for anyone who wants to take their PS5 mobile and get a Portal.

You can avoid a

199 instead of its new $249.99 price tag.

In the UK, almost all retailers still have the PS5 at pre-price-hike rates, but EE offers the best value for money, selling the console for £465. If you want to buy the more powerful console, the PS5 Pro is £679.95 at Currys, saving you £20 off the 'previous' price. For the Portal, Amazon is listing the handheld with the new price of £219.99, but currently you can get it for less than its previous price - it's at £191.99 as of me writing this.

I've got a host of links below for you to choose from, so now is the perfect time, and here is the perfect place, to jump into that upgrade or new adventure before it gets really expensive.

Avoid the massive price hike that Sony said would come to the Pro, and upgrade to the premium console at the 'older' price safely in time for the likes of GTA 6.

The PS5 disc drive console is still available at the pre-price-hike amount at Walmart, and now is the ideal time to pick one up before the price rise inevitably kicks in at all retailers.

The Play Station Portal is my favorite PS5 accessory and has really come on leaps and bounds since it launched in 2023 — don't miss this chance to pick it up before the price hikes set in!

The Game Collection isn't listing this as a discount on either its old price or the new, higher ones, but it's still a great price for the premium console, given it undercuts the original price by £20. Perfect for upgrading and avoiding the new higher price.

Price check: Currys - £689 | Argos - £699.99 | EE - £695.99 | Very - £789 | PS Direct - £789.99

EE does list this price as a saving on the new price right now, but this is still a good price in the face of the 'old' prices, as it's a few quid under the previous list price!

Price check: Currys - £479 | Argos - £479 | Very - £479 | PS Direct - £569.99

Like EE above, Amazon does list this price on the Portal as a discount from its new price, but it's a strong value proposition given it undercuts the old price - which the Portal held on to stubbornly at the best of times.

Price check: Currys - £199 | Argos - £199.99 | Very - £199 | EE - £219.99 | PS Direct - £219.99

For context on the above, Sony announced a rise in prices of its PS5 consoles, along with the Play Station Portal, starting effective April 2, 2026. This will be the second time since August 2025 that the manufacturer has upped the prices of its hardware, and it cited the "continued pressures in the global economic landscape".

However, retailers such as those listed above have been slow to reflect the price changes, so they are technically offering 'good value' for anyone looking to jump into the world of PS5 or upgrade their experience. Ahead of some bombastic games to come this year, committing to an upgrade or new console now might be a wise decision.
